Demax Information Sheet for Glass

Glass even though it is a man made product suffers from dimensional, colour and quality variations from manufacturer to manufacturer and even in different batches from the same supplier. It can have inclusions and surface imperfections and even some surface scratches. Toughened glass even when heat soaked can explode for no apparent reason.

The Glass Makers Association has set down standards and limits for Radiused and Curved glass. These limits are quite restrictive regarding getting the edges parallel and straight especially when the radius nears the limit to which it can be rolled. Radiused glass will always have a slightly flattened edge which varies with glass thickness and angle of radius, 80 degrees being the maximum.

When Radiused glass is a necessity in your design it may be worthwhile to consider Perspex or Polycarbonate. These materials are exceptionally strong and resistant to fracture, they can also be machined and require no hardening process, and any errors can be corrected unlike toughened glass. There are a huge range of thicknesses, colours and finishes available. Cost and turn round times are certainly more favourable than that of glass but under certain conditions the colour of these materials can appear different from the manufactured colour.
