The Queensmead Project
An interesting feature staircase rising from ground to third floor. A relatively open brief was given to Demax, to provide a clean, modern staircase. This design cleverly conceals the restricted space in which it is located. Starting with a curved staircase and leading up to two angular staircases, it was essential that the two different shapes blended fluently.

The curved ground floor stair incorporates a flared entrance, flowing straight inner string, curved glass balustrade, limed oak handrails and stone treads and risers Although it is not clear from the photographs, the strings of the stairs were effect painted to replicate the stone flooring. The two angular staircases provide unattractive junctions at the quarter landings and are in stark contrast to the below curved staircase. All the strings were blended with the use of curved and free sketching on CAD software, to give a shape pleasing to the eye rather than being determined by geometric constraints. As you can see from the images the staircases form one entity and flow from one to another.
This project entailed extensive design development to meet the required design. The use of Solidworks 3D modelling again allowed for a fast delivery and a perfect fit. With a client working in Africa, the 3D renders were used to great advantage in finalising the design. The use of imagination is no longer required, our designers can provide a representation which can be tailored to suit the final requirements.
