The Lansdowne Project

The Lansdowne Project
Architects Donald Insall were required to design a balustrade for a large ultra-modern property in Cambridge. We at Demax were not initially enthusiastic about the choice of bronze casting or satin brass handrail being incorporated into such a modern environment.

Unimpressed, we produced the Banana Leaf balusters complete with polished and patina finish. Having completed the site installation we had to admit that we were wrong on this occasion, the effect is very impressive. Bronze was indeed compatible with this lovely modern house - well done Donald Insall!
Bronze is a wonderful product to work with, it just oozes quality, however it is very expensive. After casting, the bronze has to be polished and the application of a patina follows, with a final light polish and wax sealer completing the effect. Bronze handrails are not available but can be replicated with the correct "know how"!
